How long does it take to paint a car?

When it comes to paint jobs, this is a question we get frequently. Here's what you need to know: car paint jobs don’t happen overnight, and they involve much more than just adding a layer of color. A number of factors will contribute to the process including the size and condition of your car, as well as the desired color.

That being said, a paint job can take 2-3 weeks for the exterior only, or 5-6 weeks for both exterior and interior parts.

#1 – Dismantling and removing parts

For our first step, we need to carefully remove parts that won’t be painted. This includes parts like mirrors, headlights, license plates, key locks, and more.

#2 – Preparing the car

Our next step in painting any car is ensuring a clean surface free of imperfections. This is where we will spend time doing things like sanding the car, fixing dings, and feathering scratches.

#3 – Applying and sealing the primer

After preparing the car we prime it. This is a foundation layer to help keep the paint smooth and long-lasting. Our workers will not only apply primer, but they will also seal the primer.

#4 – Painting the car

Now for the paint! You can be sure that our workers take extra care to match colors before beginning.

#5 – Adding the clear coat

Once the paint process is finished, we will then add clear coat. Also known as top coat, this layer helps seal the paint, add UV protection, create resistance from chips and scratches, and add a layer of shine.

#6 – Polishing the car

After we apply the clear coat, we’ll begin the polish process. This involves wet-sanding and buffing so that no blemishes are left behind.

#7 – Replacing parts and reassembly

At this point, the car is reassembled. All of the parts that were removed will be put back on the car.

How long does a paint job last?

A crucial key to extending the life of your new paint job will be in the after-care. We recommend hand-washing your car twice a month. Use mild soap and a soft cloth or sponge.

Also, starting four to six weeks after your paint job, begin waxing your car regularly. We recommend doing so every 3-4 months.
